Stewart Island/Rakiura

Stewart Island is New Zealand’s third largest island, lying to the
south of the South Island. It is
home to our newest national park, Rakiura National Park which encompasses of 80% of the island.
Rakiura, is the commonly used Maori name for Stewart Island, and roughly translates to
“Glowing Skies” in reference to the magnificent sunrises and sunsets the island is famous for and for the “Aroura
Australis” the southern lights that are a phenomenon of southern latitudes.
Stewart Island is an absolute treasure trove for the ecotourist.
Abundant virgin rain forest, golden sandy beaches,
clear seas teeming with marine life, rocky coastline, mountains and
windswept plains. Nearby Ulva
Island, a world renowned bird
santuary is only 15 minutes away.
