The
Kakapo

Our namesake the Kakapo is one of the worlds rarest birds.
A flightless native parrot once found on the mainland of New Zealand, the
Kakapo population is critically endangered now numbers less than 100 individuals
located on a few offshore islands, including Codfish Island near Stewart Island.
There is a huge conservation effort to save the Kakpo and recover the
population thorugh breeding and predator eradication programs.
To
support the Kakapo and Ulva Island, we will be donating 10% of the value of our
guests' bookings during the time of the Kakapo Encounter to the Ulva Island Trust.
The Ulva Island Trust will host a
Kakapo
Encounter on Ulva Island this year (September
8th to October 22nd 2008).
This is a rare opportunity to experience an encounter with a real live
Kakapo in natural habitat. For more information please visit the Kakapo
Encounter website.
